How the parts fit
A harness is the app around an AI model. It gives the model tools, and you decide what it may do. Every kit follows the same assembly.
-
Part A
The model
The AI that reads and writes. At UF you reach models through NaviGator AI Toolkit: local models in UF datacenters and approved cloud models.
-
Part B
The harness
OpenCode, OpenCode Desktop, or Pi. It lets the model read files, run commands, and search, and it asks for approval where you set it to.
-
Part C
Your configuration
House rules in
AGENTS.md, skills for your field, plugins you build, and permissions that match your data.
Data rules
Read this before any kit. Where a model runs decides which data you can send it.
| Where it runs | Open | Sensitive | Restricted | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Local modelsUF datacenters | Yes | Yes | Yes | Included with every personal Toolkit key. Tagged local in NaviGator Chat. |
| Cloud modelsMicrosoft, Amazon, Google | Yes | No | No | Covered by UF agreements and not used for training. In Toolkit, cloud models require a team with a UFIT billing ID. |
| Web & outside APIsSearch, scholarly APIs, page fetches | Yes | No | No | These requests leave UF, even when the model is local. Keep private details out of anything sent to the web. |
